Centennial_Parks_Tre12610DNow in the 21st century, Centennial Parklands (comprising Centennial Park, Moore Park and Queens Park) is one of the most valuable legacies in this dynamic international city of ours.

Today, it is truly 'the people's park' which earlier generations had hoped it would be. People of all ages and cultures gather here to celebrate, to relax, and to play. Like our community, the Parklands has grown and changed, but welcomes everyone who respects and cares for it.

The time has come for a renewed commitment to Centennial Parklands for future generations. As Sydney grows, so do the demands on these much-loved Parklands.

The Centennial Parklands Foundation has been created to foster commitment and financial support to the Parklands and to give people the opportunity to directly contribute to the future.

What is the Centennial Parklands Foundation?

The Centennial Parklands Foundation is an independent Charitable Organisation established by the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust with the aim of ensuring that the Centennial Parklands environment continues to be enjoyed now and by future generations.

The Foundation is listed on the Register of Environmental Organisations with the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Heritage.

The charitable purposes of the Foundation, as detailed in its Deed include:

  • To preserve the natural environmental value of Centennial Parklands
  • To encourage and promote enjoyment of recreation and activity within natural surroundings
  • To recognise and appreciate the natural and historical significance of Centennial Parklands
  • To enhance and promote all other aspects of the environmental benefits provided by Centennial Parklands to be enjoyed by all members of the public.

The Foundation needs your support

If you’ve spent any time in the Parklands recently, you might think all’s well. But the worrying fact is that many of the trees are in decline. Age, drought, poor soils, root compaction and the pressures of the urban environment have severely stressed many of the Parklands trees.

Our current assessment is that up to 60% of the Parklands’ 16,000 trees will need to be replaced over the next forty years.

It costs a lot of money to replace a tree. Many species need to be ordered years ahead and grown to a significant size before they can be transplanted.

We need to act now to ensure that visitors to Centennial Parklands in ten or twenty years do not see a landscape sadly diminished by the loss of major trees. Instead, we want to ensure they find the Parklands flourishing with new growth as the trees we plant today reach maturity and replace the ageing giants.

Support the Foundation to ensure these Parklands are here for future generations to enjoy.
